EVERGREEN TERRACE “Burned Alive By Time”

Without even listening to this, I had a feeling “Burned Alive by Time” was going to shred on the sheer fact that the eighth song is titled “Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘Em.” Seriously though, behind the goofy song titles (I also dig “Dear Live Journal”), the exisquisite artwork, and the thunderous sound, is a band that knows how to compose tight hardcore wreckages. Although typical in the melodic part/brutal part metalcore approach, EVERGREEN TERRACE sound damn good, and place each arrangement with thorough care. Somewhat like EIGHTEEN VISIONS’ disc, “Vanity,” the various styles mesh particularly well, as the band excels given either approach of screaming or singing, benefitting from a thick-as-pudding guitar sound that thumps with ruthless abandon. The second song, “No Donnie, These Men Are Nihilist,” strikes me as a track that INDECISION could have put together on their “Most Precious Blood” release, a bunch of years back. Sharp usage of double-bass too allows EVERGREEN TERRACE to propel past just sounding “tough” as the double-clicks soar between the well-placed quiet parts. Surprisingly, “Buried Alive By Time” is quite easy to listen to even with it’s head-slapping tendencies, as these guys never really get abrassive with their sound, and I absolutely love the guitar parts that sound like mating sea otters. As far as I’m concerned EVERGREEN TERRACE is a road just fine for any sub-division.
