DIESEL BOY “Rode Hard and Put Away Wet”

Oh those wacky California punkers and their silly innuendo. All kidding aside, this is a very peppy release from these well known pop-punksters and their humor couldn’t be stronger. As their fourth release for the FAT imprint, Honest Don’s, I feel that DIESEL BOY really come alive on this disc and that could be due to the extra slick guitar sounds, and oh yeah, the Ryan Greene trademarked clickity-clickity drumming. The song that got me laughing the hardest was “emo boy,” about the sad story about a boy upset with the break up of JAWBREAKER who finds reprieve in JETS TO BRAZIL and a new meaning in life. Other good stuff comes from “Pocket full of Stare,” “Rock Anthem,” and the Monica Lewinsky themed, “Tangled up and blew.” My favorite track happens to be the song “Alison’s starting to happen,” and of course, it’s the only song left out of the lyric sheet. Doh. If you are a fan of NOFX, LAGWAGON or THE QUEERS, you will most likely dig this. Anyway, DIESEL BOY have been putting out consistently solid skatepunk records for the past five plus years and it appears that they are in no way trying to expand what they are familiar and good at. Seems like a plan to me.
