DESPERATE MEASURES “Never Enough Time”

Maryland’s DESPERATE MEASURES present their ode to all things old-school on “Never Enough Time,” hitting all of the obligatory hardcore signposts that makes this kind of music fun and exciting, time after time. There’s only 10 songs on here, covering a brisk 18 minutes, but DESPERATE MEASURES spend no time fucking around. Each song is hard-hitting, direct, and chock full of positive sing-along moments. The band recorded “Never Enough Time” with Dean Baltulonis, and the sound quality is extremely good for this kind of release. The drumming on here has that classic punchy style to it that screams CHAIN OF STRENGTH. For the sake of diversity, DESPERATE MEASURES are not a one tempo band, and their subtle changes in pace help “Never Enough Time” seem more well-balanced than most releases of similar ilk. My only complaint with this disc is that while the band’s vocalist is fully capable of being a strong frontman, his vocal delivery needs some work because the lyrics come off like he’s reading sentences from a book. “Never Enough Time” isn’t groundbreaking, but its authenticity is right on target.
