DAYS GONE BY “Volition”
This is the first band specific release from Hit the Pit, a well known hardcore/metal webzine, and its signing of DAYS GONE BY is a pretty strong one. These guys follow fairly straight forward from the HATEBREED school of hardcore, and infuse a interesting dose of metal a la DIECAST and FULL BLOWN CHAOS. The five songs on here roughly come off as a high-quality demo. The band seems to be a little short on diversity (each song tends to have chugs and blast-beats in ever-so-slightly different places), and a tad lacking in production quality (not so much a poor recording, but missing that thickness or crunch as to really give the band some soul), but as this is their debut effort, the imperfections don’t really hurt the band – they just heighten their relative youth. As DAYS GONE BY have displayed their adept ability to foster momenthum into their songs, a more forceful vocal attack might improve the band’s clarity. Anyway, it’s nothing but a good thing to have more bands entering the hardcore frey, and with some extra time devoted to future songwriting endeavors, the guys in DAYS GONE BY can probably put together something very special.
