COUNT ME OUT “Permenant”

When it comes to considering the best of the best among current bands playing that “straight-edge, old-school hardcore with modern production” sound, COUNT ME OUT, have aligned themselves clearly with those at the top. Although the band’s discography is fairly minimal over their few years of existence, and probably contains no more than an hour of music, their first full-length, “110,” and now their second, “Permanent” make their marks cut in stone. Aggressive, acrimonious, and downright vicious, COUNT ME OUT waste no time in delivering their music with extreme efficiency. “Permanent” consists of 12 songs, all of which fly by in a shade over 20 minutes. Without one split second of reprieve, if you blink, you will miss a whole lot. As expected, the normally sharp lyrics take hold with patterns of betrayal, deceit, dischordance, and risk-taking. For those who fret the often complicated romantic tie-ups that hardcore bands seem to popularize today, this is surely a throwback, but in the best sense of purity and construction logical relationships. Recorded in a ten-day stint with the production whiz, Brian McTernan, “Permanent” has that earth-shifting style that leaves foot-prints across the forehead. COUNT ME OUT aren’t doing anything truly new, but they play with such energy and force that you can’t help but appreciate the unbridled enthusiasm that lies in their hardcore jams.
