CELEBRITY “Sle.ep”

Having no previous familiarity of this band prior to getting this release in the mail, I was rather curious as to what was contained wherein. The stark but smooth artwork hinted at a cold feeling, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. CELEBRITY rock in that post-hardcore kind of way that’s more aligned with thick sounding indie rock rather than music with rougher edges, much like the engaging, RIVAL SCHOOLS. “Sle.ep” is a six track EP that neither moves too fast nor two slow, it merely glides along the rhythms pumped out of huge guitars and well crafted vocals. Poetic lyrics provide the backbone to CELEBRITY, and the fourth song, “Drag” has me believing in the lines, “i’ll drag myself from underneath the weight of someone else / what you came for, and what you saw, were two completely different things from the start.” The fifth song “Camera” is the catchiest of the six, but it’s not quite all-out pop. If anything, this is a hard band to figure out, because you’re never so sure of what will happen next. Mystique is always appreciated.
