CALDWELL “Accidental Renovation”

Accidental Renovation opens up strong – heavy guitars and ramping drums quickly escalate into an all out hardcore onslaught. In the same way that COMEBACK KID brings it, so do CALDWELL. You won’t find any blistering metalcore solos on CALDWELL’s debut album, only driving no-nonsense hardcore that is free of pomp and pretense. Recording wise, this release sounds thick and complete, but the production isn’t glossed over. Even when the band whips out some questionable “melodic emocore moments,” their singer’s paltry vocal abilities cause the band to avoid the shaky pop fate that befalls most bands dabbling in such overworked territory. The genius in the record is that it avoids an awkward pop feel and is purely fueled by raw aggression. Although this may not have been their intent, it is something they benefit from greatly. Accidental Renovation stays stylistically one dimensional throughout, but that one dimension is furious and energetic, just like a good hardcore record should be.
