BREAKER BREAKER “Out of Service EP”

BREAKER BREAKER broke up a short while ago, so this release is posthumous, which is a shame because the six songs on shred with potential. Taking the ol’ “if ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach to old-school hardcore, these tunes come and go in 11 minutes, and don’t let up at all. Huge, raw production boosts the fidelity into a sound that’s very ’88 Revelation Records. Bands like BOLD or JUDGE immediately come to mind, even though the vocals don’t match the aforementioned. The breakdowns on the second track, “Shipwrecked,” remind me strongly of COUNT ME OUT, another band worthy of respect, and the gang chorus to “The Frequency” is monstrous. This is the type of the release that works well on “repeat” for long stretches of time. Great artwork and packaging (it’s one of those clear cds) complete BREAKER BREAKER’s final output, and hopefully this band is proud of what they accomplished, even if they ran out of time prematurely.
