BORN OF OSIRIS “The New Reign MCD”
Chicago’s BORN OF OSIRIS are a ridiculously talented six-piece metal/hardcore band that introduce the progressive, methodical leanings of OPETH into the ugly, mosh-infested waters of hyper-technical bands like A LIFE ONCE LOST, MESHUGGAH, and LAMB OF GOD. While the band lacks the swagger of Philly’s finest, BORN OF OSIRIS more than make up the gap with fiercely tight songwriting, skillfully howled vocals, and an advanced display of tempo dynamics. Similar to early BURNT BY THE SUN, these guys are at ease with blast-beats, but restrain themselves from going overboard with an endless death-by-triggered-percussion sound. BORN OF OSIRIS’ drummer will have your head nodding all over the place with his palette of start-stop rhythms and machine-gun breakdowns. The New Reign’s tasteful use of keyboards is also a strength as the keys add another powerful dimension to the band’s blizzard-like coverage. And oh yea… there’s no pretty-boy singing parts! BORN OF OSIRIS may be treading in well-worn musical territory, but the band’s capabilities are virtually breathtaking and this is one jaw-dropping debut.
