BLUELINE MEDIC “Text_Bomb”

Text_Bomb is this Australian band’s second full-length release in the US, and it shows a lot of growth from their more straight-forward disc “Apology Wars.” With greater depth in sounds and a more somber, scratchy feeling, BLUELINE MEDIC remind me much of JAWBREAKER. The deliciously thick production quality on here allows the band to carry a bolder torch to their songs, and the powerful, deep vocals gravitate from the center. Just as this band can pull off a fast lick in the vein THE MOVIELIFE (minus the poppy edge), they can transition into slow-moving ballards, and more general rock fare. Unfortunately, even with relatively seamless changes in style, BLUELINE MEDIC cannot find much of a hook to hold onto, and it prevents “Text_Bomb” from becoming something better than merely “good.” Although I give the band credit for writing unique lyrics, I’m at a fairly substantial loss in interpreting any meanings or connotations from them, and when trying earnestly to follow along, my attention shifts elsewhere. Still, BLUELINE MEDIC have an interesting, intoxicating sound that’s not always easy to grapple with, but guaranteed to surround the key aural senses.
