BAD REACTION “Had It Coming”
BAD REACTION play lightning fast Southern California hardcore/punk like it’s straight out of the early 80s. There’s nine songs to this MCD, and only one of them tops two minutes, and there’s a bonus cover of the BAD BRAINS classic “Pay to Cum.” Parts of Had It Coming (which compiles the band’s two prior 7″s Dare to be Dull and Plastic World), leap out like they’ve been scoped from the MINOR THREAT playbook (“The Truth”), while others take on a more obnoxious/fuck-you tone (“Shitting on Your Subculture”). BAD REACTION may have a style linked to hardcore’s rudimentary beginnings, but the songwriting here is pretty busy and aggressive, particularly in the gnarrrrrly breakdown on the fifth track, “You,” and on the tree-pulverizing buzzsaw madness that is “Wigger Please.” I don’t know about you, but I suddenly have the urge to circle-pit until I lose my footing.
