AUGUST PREMIER “Balloons…Everything’s Okay”

This eight song EP shows off some promising talent from the guys in AUGUST PREMIER. Althought their power-punk sound isn’t much different from the buckets of other music I get to listen to, I like their sense of urgency and lyrical gumption. Lead vocalist, Chris Rodger sounds a heck of a lot like another Chris, that would be Chris Johnson of the awesome AUTOPILOT OFF, and that can be said for the entire band, which is a darn skippy cool compliment. AUGUST PREMIER avoid falling into the “cute boy” trap by sounding a tad angrier and more intense, and this is helped by having a grittier, but powerful production style. Although i’d be hypocritical to suggest maybe some more harmonies would make this band more appealing, but their songwriting strongly compliments the possibility of some more melodic moments. One thing that is strangely bizarre about this EP is the last track, “Radiant,” which couldn’t possibly sound anymore like ALKALINE TRIO. Someone in this band has obviously been playing the crap out of “From Here till Infirmary,” which ain’t a bad thing. Anyway, this disc has some bite and lots of energy, and it looks real sharp too. A pretty rockin’ debut, keep it going boys.
