ARMA ANGELUS “Where Sleeplessness is Rest from Nightmares”

Oh yeah, this rocks. ARMA ANGELUS fancy themselves with long drawn out hardcore tunes that find themselves sandwiched between typical metalcore stylings and their own genre of off kilter beats and slashing guitars. Of obvious note is the collective skill of the relative musicians on this release. Solid is an understatement. Everything on “Where Sleeplessness…” appears to be cleverly calculated, thoroughly re-examined, and edited for good measure, in an overall grand composition. Lengthy song titles populate the seven songs, (over 30 minutes of music), and brillant, poignant lyrics work over the listener with the productivity of an electric screwdriver. I particularly dig the lyrics of the tune, “For the expatriates of human civilation,” where vocalist Pete Wentz screams, “I want to live / I want live under softer light / to not share a sun with those content with this life / where breathing feels like a foreign function to me.” The production quality on “Where Sleeplessness…” is stellar, as the artwork, though for some reason, it screams out “earth tones!” to me. In the liner notes, the band included a short paragraph describing what the band went through in getting this release out (I believe it was delayed nearly a year), therefore providing an excuse of sorts for the unyielding “passion and hostility” that pervades through the music. I’d say that sums it up all nicely, and I imagine that these guys would truly rip it up live. All hail Eulogy!
