ARIEL KILL HIM “In The Pyramid”

ARIEL KILL HIM is a Swedish band that has been praised and talked about since the release of their new album, “In the Pyramid.” When I checked out the two songs on the band’s website, I found no reason to share this excitement – I found the songs to be boring and generic. So when the disk “In the Pyramid” arrived, I had this preconceived notion about the band. After one thorough listen, I came to the conclusion that while this release may not exactly change the face of music, it does have some interesting things going for it. Given the right mood, “In the Pyramid” can be the ideal filler for background noise. As I became hypnotized in the beauty of the music, I was reminded of listening to SIGUR ROS, or “OK Computer” era RADIOHEAD. Fifty-one minutes after I pushed play, the album finished and the world became real again. I had managed to be so involved in the music that nothing else mattered. This was not what I had expected… “In The Pyramid” is laced with piano, strings, and tempered vocal lines. Parts are repetitious and looped in a way that will keep the listener comfortable. The polished production enhances the pristine clarity, as every note sounds smooth and exact. Filled with reverb and well positioned noises, all of “In the Pyramid’s” quirks add to the atmospheric element that the band creates. ARIEL KILL HIM shows potential on this release to be an important name in music someday. One that could end up making an amazing, genre defining album one day. Just not yet. For now, however, ARIEL KILL HIM, and its release, “In The Pyramid,” will have to settle for being great music in positioning music in the shadows.
