ANGELS IN THE ARCHITECTURE “The Distance in Writing”

And now for something entirely different: ANGELS IN THE ARCHITECTURE. Okay, it’s probably not entirelydifferent, but there’s a pretty original sound being put together by these guys and it’s darn good too. Over the ten tracks of pulsating rhythms, lush textures, and smooth vocals, this band is more akin to being referred to as elegant than anything else. The generic classification here would be emo, but that’s quite definitive since ANGELS IN THE ARCHITECTURE feature a very tight, polished, and complete sound. The vocals complement the music forward rather than command the direction of the songs. Overall though, the music is rather driving, especially on the standout track, “Steven Austin.” The lyric sheet is tightly packed into the tray card of the packaging, and while they don’t strike me as anything extroadinary, it’s certainly not a detriment to the entire work. “The Distance in Writing,” is a release that actually gets stronger with each subsequent song with a nary a lull in sight. For some reason, this disc reminds me a bit of FURTHER SEEMS FOREVER, but with a fuller sound – a credit to the meaty production qualities on here. ANGELS IN THE ARCHITECTURE are probably not going to force a catchy song in your head, nor are they going to get a sweaty pit started with a wicked mosh part, however, they will provide you with a fairly moving 36 minute long soundtrack should you consider to check this out – and I would encourage you to do just that.
