BANKROBBER – “Vultures” 7″

Denver hardcore band BANKROBBER leave little to the imagination with their powerful, abrasive style. Vultures is a six song EP that runs about 10 minutes and comes across as a mix of bands like THE SUICIDE FILE and DEAD HEARTS with a little bit of the vocal swagger of HOPE CONSPIRACY tossed in too. There’s a slight metal edge to the music, but these guys choose speed over hefty riffs or anything that has the spaced-out pulsing mid-90s chug. The downside to this is that the EP’s neck-snapping tempo changes fall under the shadow of over-lording howled vocals. The same is true for the handful of breakdowns and gang-vocal injections, which are welcome but not terribly defining. Overall, it’s not bad stuff and the musicianship is serious business, but there’s a lot of bands playing this kind of music and I was hoping that the anger and rage on Vultures would stay with me a little longer.
