- “Through the Ice Curtain” sounds so very different from Change Never Lasts and Forging a Future, than I’m almost convinced that FIRST TO LEAVE should have changed their name in the process. Giving up on speedy melodic emo/hardcore and trading it in for guitar-focused indie rock, “Through the Ice Curtain” maintains the band’s nasal, SAVES THE DAYish vocals, and that’s about it. The instrumentation is pretty good though, and for a very rainy and cold day like today, the tone of the material is just right… and EP opener “From Leaps to Greater Bounds” has a great hook too in closing out the song.
