59 TIMES THE PAIN “Calling The Public”

Some bands like to modify and tweak their sound over their careers but 59 TIMES THE PAIN likes to shift entire genres with each subsequent release. How else do you explain a band going from an IGNITE/SICK OF IT ALL style to a CLASH, RANCID, BUSINESS type deal in a matter of two records?!? The good thing is that 59 TIMES THE PAIN have always been great musicians/songwriters no matter what style they’ve gotten themselves into. I must say, I was a tad shocked to see every tune on here to be either mid or slow paced rock, entirely drowned in CLASH worshipping (right down to some wicked reggae parts), but at the same time, I fell in love with such positive, anthemic lyrics aimed at making life a more enjoyable place. The first song, “Rock the City,” is something that will light up my future homemade compilations for years to come. Song five, “Freedom Station,” could have easily nestled its way onto RANCID’s “Life Won’t Wait,” album, and track 10, “My Life My Choice My Call,” could be riding the next wave of motivational speaking. Overall, “Calling the Public” is a fun disc, and one that only suffers from slight lack in power from a production standpoint. However, if you enjoy singing along to every word in a jovial fashion, this is some great stuff.
