MONO “Hymn to the Immortal Wind”

Hymn to the Immortal Wind, by Japan’s MONO, like most discs released by Temporary Residence defy my well-ingrained desire to pick and choose the songs I listen to off of the record. Hymn is a disc to be listened to straight through and the context is important. MONO, through fits of noise, have always had [...]

FLAMING LIPS Tune honored in Oklahoma

Tomorrow, governor Brad Henry signs some legal jargon naming THE FLAMING LIPS song “Do You Realize” the official rock song of Oklahoma. The band’s song almost did not receive the esteemed title because of some bad eggs in the the Oklahoma state house of representatives. Apparently the fact that band member Michael Ivins has a penchant for hammer and sickle t-shirts was not cool in the eyes of those politicians. The move pushes Oklahoma into the upper lexicon of states cool enough to have official rock songs. Unfortunately there are only two others bad-ass enough to have such a thing. Washington’s rock song is “Louie, Louie” by THE KINGSMEN, and Ohio’s is “Hang on Sloopy” by THE MCCOYS. You can check out the billboard.com article here.

EVERGREEN TERRACE Enter Studio For New Album

From the inbox: Jacksonville, FL hardcore act EVERGREEN TERRACE is pleased to announce Almost Home as the title of their upcoming release and follow up to 2007′s Wolfbiker. The band is now geared up to enter Audio Hammer Studios in Orlando, FL with Jason Suecof (Trivium, The Black Dahlia Murder, Job for a Cowboy) who will be recording vocals and handling mixing with the rest of the recording taking place with Stan Martell at Martell Studios in Kingsland, GA. Almost Home is set for a September release. Here’s what guitarist Josh James has to say; “Crunch time has now approached us, with just 1 week before we go into the studio. As always, we’ve given a lot and gone through even more during this writing period. From a member of the band leaving to a death in the family: we have accepted the changes that have come and gone in our lives and it all shows in this next batch of songs. I think this record will surprise the new listeners as well as have the old ones stoked. I’d say it’s best described as a good mixture of Burned Alive by Time and Wolfbiker, but of course, like every band says, ‘it’s the best record we’ve done yet!’ If you already hate our band then chances are you’ll hate this record, if you already love our band then be prepared to have a new favorite ET record. Regardless, we’re stoked.” Musically, EVERGREEN TERRACE takes cues from no other. The band transitions effortlessly from fast, powerful heavy hardcore to melodic punk rock. This has allowed them to tour with a diverse group since their start in late 1999 including As I Lay Dying, Strung Out, Norma Jean, Every Time I Die, Hatebreed, Thursday, Gwar and a spot on the coveted Vans Warped Tour (2008) where the band played with Against Me!, All That Remains, Angels and Airwaves, Cobra Starship, Reel Big Fish, Rise Against, A Day To Remember, and many more.

LAST AMERICAN BUFFALO “Bohemian Blues”

Bohemian Blues, the new album from from LAST AMERICAN BUFFALO experiments with folk, blues, and indie rock, a blend of influences that are hardly innovative. Fortunately, their obsession with your parent’s record collection is not a desperate attempt to jump aboard the old-timey bandwagon led by groups like BRIGHT EYES and OKKERVIL RIVER. They don’t [...]
