THRICE “The Alchemy Index Vols. I & II”

Oh THRICE…. THRICE, THRICE, THRICE. In what should be renamed as the “ISIS & RADIOHEAD Chronicles,” California’s THRICE further distance themselves from their early hardcore and metal leanings and swoop in with a bipolar set of musical characteristics. Fire and Water are the much ballyhooed six song EPs that comprise this singular release (though each [...]

Elliot’s Best Releases of 2003

First year on Team Pastepunk, so first year I get to do one of these. Feel free to shoot me an email to agree/tell me I suck at elliot@pastepunk.com. All emails concerning my sucktitude will, however, be promptly deleted. #20: CURSIVE – The Ugly Organ (Saddle Creek). I’m amazed at how quickly this release slipped [...]

Emusic is now carrying the dubious Lost and Found Records live album from SICK OF IT ALL, titled Live In A World Full of Hate. The mid-90s release includes 24 tracks, much of which is from their full-lengths Blood, Sweat, No Tears and Just Look Around.

NY Times Profiles F Yeah Tour

In a pretty interesting piece, the New York Times profiled the curator/founder of the F Yeah Fest, Sean Carlson. The article describes the struggles that the tour faced and unexpected issues that pop up when planning a 28 date tour in the span of 27 days. Check it out here.

Release of the Day

CHAMBERLAIN – Fate’s Got A Driver (Doghouse)

- You can stream this once for free at Lala.com here. It’s one of my favorite midwestern rock/post-hardcore acts from the mid-90s. The band put out several more releases on Doghouse as well as one on Engineer Records.

FIREWORKS Joins Triple Crown Roster

From the inbox:

“So about two years ago we [FIREWORKS] recorded an EP called We Are Everywhere. Since then, we released (sort of) a 7′ with a cover, two old songs, and only one new song (which clocks in at a minute long). We understand we haven’t been as exciting in the “new music” field as we should have, so we apologize. We promise we haven’t been slacking though, the past 6 months or so have been filled with us touring, writing, garage band-ing, and ultimately trying to find some way to put out a full length record. So, after a long discussion of “slam dancing” over some of New York’s finest vegan cuisine, we decided Triple Crown Records was worthy of our musk. We’ll be recording an entirely new record this October and hoping for a late winter 09 release. Also, look for a fall re-release of We Are Everywhere with some new features. We’re extremely excited to be a part of Triple Crown and proud to be part of such an awesome label ran by awesome people. Thanks to Run for Cover Records, everyone who bought/downloaded us, came to shows to hang out with us, and let us be your living partners for a day or two. These past 2 years will always stand as some of the best for us, and with this news, we’re looking forward to a few more.

We’ll check back soon with some more details, but for now go check out, “Show Me Your Vanishing Act One More Time” on our Friendster page. It’s the new cut from Adventure, Nostalgia and Robbery, which we promise will be shipped out as soon as we get them ourselves. We are also hitting the road with our good friends in Hit the Lights starting in Mid-august. The dates are on our page, so come hang out and boss the pit with us.”

- Friendster? Really? Is Friendster still around? Anyway… the new song is also posted on their MySpace page. Great tune.

JESU “Lifeline”

I guess it’s true that one mellows with age. In the case of Justin K. Broadrick, he went from absolutely insane heaviness with GODFLESH and millions of other projects, to slowing things down with JESU. Although earlier JESU material crawled at a tortoise’s pace, it still featured some absolutely monster guitar work that felt like [...]
