GATSBY’S AMERICAN DREAM “Volcano”

With Volcano, GATSBY’S AMERICAN DREAM appears to complete the belief that this Northwest quartet has absolutely no interest in making the same record twice. With three full-lengths behind them, and a well-taken EP, this group continues to tinker with its arrangements and production styles. In a move that somewhat bucks the theme of their Land [...]

Pastepunk’s James Hepplewhite On The Radio

James’ radio show is on every Thursday from 10pm-12am, on WARC 90.3 (Allegheny College). I’m listening to it right now as I post this, so if you’re cruising the news page at this very moment, you can stream his show from this location. Not suprisingly, James plays a great mix of punk, hardcore, ska, and so forth.

Eulogy Inks WILL TO LIVE

From the inbox:

“For nearly 10 years, Houston’s WILL TO LIVE has been combining furious beats, heavy guitars and ferocious vocals. Through thick and thin, they have withstood adversity and remained true to the Texas hardcore scene that they proudly represent.

Over the last few years, WILL TO LIVE have toured the nation, while still finding time to write new material. The band is adamant about its love for hardcore, as evidenced in their most recent album, Tested and True (Spook City), which has received praise from critics for its thick, metallic riffs and uncommonly insightful lyrics.

WILL TO LIVE’s formula is simple: stay away from gimmicky musical trends and always keep it heavy and loud. Furthermore, they combine the influences of the golden era of hardcore and metal with the power and grace of today’s heavy hitters such as TERROR and HATEBREED.

Still, WILL TO LIVE is not here to resurrect the past or carry on as a novelty act, as the band is full of vitality and willing to show the world Texas hardcore is alive and well in 2006. Profound lyrics and bone crushing beats should please thrashers, metal-heads, punks and hardcore kids alike.

From the inbox:

UNDEROATH is now in Sweden filming two videos, “Writing On the Walls” and “In Regards to Myself”, confirmed to host Headbangers Ball on June 3rd, and are donating all of their share of the cash from their New Orleans performance on May 15 to Ninth Ward Katrina victims.

-It’s refreshing to see that even after a time of need, punk rock continues to contribute to a city still getting back on its feet…

VENEREA “One Louder”

I’ve often lamented on these pages that the window of reference for so many “bands of the moment” goes back at most, maybe two or three years. This is why it seems that for the most part, the melodicore stylings of the early-to-mid 90s is about as outdated as Dan Qualye jokes. In Europe however, [...]
