Buzzgrinder Talks THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES' Move From Jade Tree Posted by Corey Schmidt / May 9, 2008 In an insightful blog post, Seth from Buzzgrinder.com has detailed some of Jade Tree's shortcomings as of late, tying it all to THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES recently announcing a new partnership with growing independent label Suicide Squeeze. To read the post, you can click here.
- EDIT: Just noticed the previous post here on Pastepunk.com also linked to a Buzzgrinder story. Totally a coincidence, but it is a blog worthy of checking out.

Daytrotter Radio Show Launches Posted by Jordan A. Baker / May 8, 2008 From the inbox:
Hello to all!
So, last night on WXPN (www.xpn.org), the magnificent Philadelphia radio station and one of the crown jewels of the NPR universe, the weekly Daytrotter Radio show debuted. We're really excited about this new partnership with WXPN -- which is also home to David Dye's heralded World Cafe program -- and hope that it allows us to reach more people to expand the awareness of people like Luke Temple and all of the other great artists that grace our site on a daily basis. You'll be able to hear me being a DJ along the lines of WKRP's Johnny Fever and hear previews of upcoming sessions, old favorites and Bookery readings. The show will appear from now until whenever as long as I don't stink up the place, Wednesday nights at 10:30 p.m. eastern standard time. You can hear it in Philadelphia on the real airwaves or from the safety of your own home, live on xpn.org. Next week's show will feature tunes from this week's session by Tim Fite, Tokyo Police Club, Pepi Ginsberg and a new Bookery from Ben Lee. An archived version of last night's show can be found here: daytrotter.com/radio. Please do help us make the Daytrotter Radio half hour a smash! We couldn't be more excited to be doing this.

More One-or-Two-Line Thoughts Posted by Jordan A. Baker / May 7, 2008 1. ELVIS COSTELLO is turning heads once again with another great full-length. You can stream Momofukuhere.
2. If we're talking about pop, I have to admit that I'm enjoying the debut full-length of THE CAB on Decaydance/Fueled by Ramen. Reminds me of JIMMY EAT WORLD meets MAROON 5, though not as sucky as that might sound.
3. Angel Pagan is a good baseball name. Boof Bonser is a great baseball name (though he was born John Paul Bonser).
4. Members of ALL OUT WAR have formed the death metal band BEHEAD THE LAMB. Loudness.
5. If you ever wanted to know all of the copyright history behind the 'world's most famous song,' "Happy Birthday," there is now a legal note on the topic from a professor at the George Washington University School of Law.
6. CAPITAL's vinyl release of the most excellent Homefront is up for pre-order from Vinyl Collective (and will be released by Underground Communique). VC is giving away a test pressing of the release - more details can be found here.
Tribunal Inks ENEMY IS US Posted by Jordan A. Baker / May 7, 2008 From the inbox:
"You could say that ENEMY IS US is keeping their native country’s metal legacy alive by delivering an explosive mixture of old school Swedish death metal, new school thrash and adding just a touch of hardcore aggression. Their second album, Venomized, is slick, diverse and calculating; shifting between full throttle tracks like “Through Vile Black Blood” and “My Cross To Bear” then suddenly coming to a menacing crawl with fist pumping anthems like “Show Me Them Horns” and “Carnal Betray.” Co-produced by veteran, Daniel Bergstrand, it’s no wonder that Venomized is massive in sound and flawless in its presentation. Eleven tracks of hook filled choruses and unforgettable riffs will surely help to propel ENEMY IS US into the metal spotlight where they will soon stand with the likes of At The Gates and Entombed as true champions of their homeland."
Editorial Content (One-or-Two-Liner Edition) Posted by Jordan A. Baker / May 6, 2008 1. A press release about a band posting a track listing is not news.
2. Absolutepunk.net has been acquired by Buzznet. Congrats to Jason Tate (and the rest of the AP.net staff) for the success of their hard work.
3. When you have an infant in the house, there's a persistent feeling that you should be doing something with at all times, lest one becomes a parent that ignores their child. It's a very compelling force.
4. There was an 1.8 earthquake today in Northern Virginia that was centered about three miles from my house. Seems like someone dropped a granite counter top or something...
5. If we changed around the names of Rise Records bands, could anyone tell the difference?
6. NOFX's Backstage Pass on Fuse is super entertaining. Despite their long protestations, these guys were made for television.
7. Whatever happened to EVERGREEN TERRACE?
8. Stream the phenomenal new EP from SCREAM HELLO at the band's Punknews page. Four songs of power-pop/punk bliss. This band could be on the verge of greatness.
9. Everything I own is pretty much covered in drool.
Spotlight On: WITHDRAWAL Posted by Jordan A. Baker / May 6, 2008 From the Bridge Nine Board:
"WITHDRAWAL are a band from Winnipeg, Canada. We are 5 gentlemen who share a mutual bleak outlook on humanity and have been known to play heavy negative hardcore. We have many influences including Slayer, Septic Death, Killing Joke, Sisters of Mercy, Anthrax, Buried Alive, All Out War, Black Sabbath, Bauhaus, Depeche mode, Integrity and a bunch of other random shit you could probably care less about.
Our lyrics are cathartic, cold, depressing and honest. Our music prays night and day in the lake of fire at the altar of riffage.
We just finished doing a tour out west with Pulling Teeth and we're gonna start booking shows out to Quebec for the end of summer. We'll be working on putting out a 7" soon on a label TBA and doing a ton of touring both in the states and other countries that don't matter."

Epitaph Launches "Epitaph Blog" Posted by Jordan A. Baker / May 6, 2008 After burning through multiple consultants and $300,000 worth of surveys and focus groups (not really), Epitaph has decided to name its striking new publishing venture the "Epitaph Blog." Much like the Anti Blog for its sister label, the Epitaph Blog plans to issue daily updates about Epitaph bands and events at the ol' Epitaph office. NEUROSIS Featured on VBS.tv Posted by Jordan A. Baker / May 6, 2008 From the VBS.tv Crew:
A little while back Vice put on a sick two night show with NEUROSIS at The Brooklyn Masonic Temple. I [Rory Ahern] was lucky enough to check out one night. If there is a soundtrack to the Apocalypse I am sure it will be Neurosis.
Since this band rarely tours we wanted to make sure we caught the moment. We did and now you can witness the awesomeness as well. All this week we have songs from the show. Strap on your headphones.
The first two are up now on VBS.tv, the rest running all this week.
VBS Presents: Neurosis at The Brooklyn Masonic Temple
Tomorrow will be "Water is Enough", followed by "Burn" and "The Doorway" concludes the show on Friday.
Pitchfork.tv also recently did a feature with Mastodon and Neurosis from the show. Check out Part 1 and Part 2. When will we see PastePunk.tv, Jordan? Huh?! - Jason

D.O.A. Announce 30th Anniversary Tour; North Avenger To Be Produced by Bob Rock Posted by Jordan A. Baker / May 5, 2008 From the inbox:
Over the past thirty years D.O.A. have released 12 albums and sold one million copies during their storied career. Band Leader Joe Shithead Keithley has gone on to start his own label Sudden Death Records and, with members of D.O.A, started a side project called Band of Rebels. Keithley captured his musical history in his Canadian bestseller autobiography I, Shithead - A Life In Punk (Arsenal Pulp Press). In 2003, Vancouver Mayor Larry Campbell declared December 21st to be "D.O.A. Day" in honor of the band's 25th anniversary.
Keithley has teamed up with co-conspirators bassist Randy Rampage and drummer James Hayden to come up with a ton of great new songs for a new album to be released this summer. Bob Rock has produced albums for Metallica, Pointed Sticks, Young Canadians, Motley Crue, Cranberries, The Cult and many others. Bob Rock is producing D.O.A.’s 13th full length album Northern Avenger in time for their 30th anniversary.
What did the Canadian godfather of punk rock have to say about working with Rock? "Working with Bob Rock is fucking cool,” says Keithley. “D.O.A. and Bob go a long ways back to the early days of Vancouver's punk rock scene. If there ever was a guy who can record a heavy sound, it's Bob and D.O.A.'s a heavy band, so it bloody well makes sense!"
D.O.A. has always maintained an uncompromising anarchist populist political stance using the slogan "TALK – ACTION = 0". The band is known for its outspoken political opinions and has a history of performing for many causes and benefits. The band has been active on many issues, including anti-racism, anti-globalization, freedom of speech and the environment.
Thirty years later Joe Shithead Keithley and D.O.A. are still just as outspoken and continue to fuckin’ rock!
Need I say more?

Suicide Squeeze Inks THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES Posted by Jordan A. Baker / May 5, 2008 From the inbox:
Suicide Squeeze and Solid PR are very excited to announce the signing of Seattle-based, critically acclaimed apocalyptic post-punk quartet, THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES!
THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES conduct turbulent blends of angst-ridden destruction and angular jolts of post-punk reminiscent to the early sounds of Swing Kids, The Refused, or Nation of Ulysses. To date the band has toured w/ the likes of Minus The Bear, Blood Brothers, Big Business, Cursive, Mastodon, Against Me!, Isis, Pelican, Hot Water Music, and other likeminded heavy hitters in today's thinking man's punk and metal circuit.
The band has announced they will begin recording their new album on May 9 at Red Room Recordings in Seattle, WA, recording with Producer/TAAS drummer Chris Common (Mouth Of The Architect, These Arms Are Snakes, Minus the Bear), for a (yet to be titled) release on October 7th courtesy of Suicide Squeeze.
THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES have previously released a handful of EP's and two full-lengths for labels such as Hydra Head and Jade Tree (most notably 2006's Easter LP), and aside from their Good Friday 7" in 2006, the new album will be the first long-player for the Suicide Squeeze imprint.
THE OFFSPRING Post Free Download of "Hammerhead" Posted by Jordan A. Baker / May 5, 2008 California punk rock superstars THE OFFSPRING have made available a free MP3 download of their brand new song "Hammerhead," at their website offspring.com. The four-minute plus song is from their highly anticipated new full-length Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace, which is out on June 17th.
- Oooooh... this good. I still love this band. "Smash" will have been released fourteen years ago, this upcoming summer. Unreal.
NINE INCH NAILS Release The Slip, A Non-Instrumental, Full Length Album, For Free Posted by James Hepplewhite / May 5, 2008 Yes, a full NINE INCH NAILS album for free. Mr. Reznor notes on the website that there will be a CD and Vinyl edition of the album in July, with details forthcoming.
What surprises me is that even when Mr. Reznor understands he's speaking to millions of people around the globe, he still makes the release of the album feel personal and like he's speaking directly to you...
Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years - this one's on me.
You can download the Slip, here, with a registration.
[A]nd I would have definitely put those cliche-ass clowns on blast...
