Pastepunk Comes To An End
After more than 14 years of existence, it is time to close the doors on Pastepunk. I have long told myself that when the energy and excitement in doing the site was not there, it was time to put it to rest. Truthfully, it’s been time for awhile now, and I am sure that many of you have realized that through the sporadic posting and general pairing down of content. I’ve never wanted Pastepunk to turn into something that lacks commitment, so I think the song below (“All or Nothing”) from CAULDRON is most appropriate.
Thank you to everyone who has helped out along the way. I cannot put into words the immense gratitude I feel from having the support of our readers, and the bands, labels, and beloved PR firms that have shown an interest in what we were about. The incredible hard work that drives the gears of the independent music scene should be an inspiration to all, and I know that I will continue to be impressed by the lengths people go through to do great things on their own terms. To paraphrase one of my favorite SILENT MAJORITY songs, “No I’m Not”, this was my therapy, this was my outlet, this zine her tape recorder, this platform, a leather couch. I will continue to maintain the @pastepunk Twitter account, please feel free to reach out. The site will also be kept online for at least a year for archive purposes.
Finally – I did an interview with ScenePointBlank in August for an upcoming “the coalition of the webzines” feature. They graciously allowed me to post it on the site as a “some last words” entry. Please check it out here, and look for the upcoming SPB feature which I expect to be well worth reading.

And here’s a note from our senior contributor James Hepplewhite, to which I owe my sincere appreciation:
Thank you all for reading. Pastepunk was something special and I’m overjoyed to have done it. To the PR firms, labels and everyone who offered content, thank you. To the bands that took the time to talk to us, thank you even more. All this madness ultimately revolves around your art. Don’t ever forget that. Thank you Jordan, for taking me on. Time to be someone else. Love, James Hepplewhite.

@pastepunk whyyyyyyy fuck
@pastepunk sorry to hear it.
@pastepunk I may or may not have a tear in my eye. Thank you for a lot of really good years buddy.
@pastepunk Jordan, thank you for the last 12 years. I’ve been reading the site since high school and can’t imagine my taste without it.
@pastepunk Bummer to see this go. You’ve done an amazing job. Good luck with everything in the future. #longlivepastepunk
Damn it. Haven’t been this bummed since punkrocks.net. I guess I knew it had to come to an end eventually but it sucks to see the sites you grew up and in to the scene on go away. Especially as I myself start to get older and a little more disconnected from it by the year. It was a great run. I checked this website every day since I was about 14 years old, started on AOL 56k downloading Pennywise songs off audiogalaxy right up til itunes and high speed internet today. Thanks for all the bands you’ve introduced me to, the comps and all the great articles.
@pastepunk that’s really sad news, thanks for all your hard work and a great site!
@pastepunk NOOOOOOOO!!! Sad news. But, thank you for all the years that you’ve provided so much to & for the punk community. I’ll miss it.
@pastepunk you had a great run with your site! sorry to see it end.
@pastepunk Let me guess: You’ve come to realize you’re more of an easy-listening guy?
Such a sad day. Thanks for all your good work. So many of us regular readers owe you a debt of gratitude for our consequently improved tastes in music.
Bummer to see the site going down! Thanks for the hard work you have put into the site and I wish you and our family the best!
Thanks for everything guys. I’ve been going to pastepunk for about the last 10 years so it’s sad to see it go. I’ve discovered countless amount of bands because of the work you guys put into this site. Good luck for the future and thanks again.
@pastepunk Sad to see you go, but I enjoyed the Silent Majority reference in the post.
Thanks for all the time you put into Pastepunk, Jordan (and staff). Pastepunk turned me onto as many bands as any site over the years.
Keep up the MUP posting
Hey Jordan, I want to take the opportunity to thank you and the other contributors to Pastepunk over the years for your commitment and hard work to the music that I and all of those who frequented this site love and make part of our lives. Pastepunk was one of the very first sources of information I found and relied upon as I first started listening to punk and hardcore music. While I don’t think anyone who writes about music can do so in a truly unbiased way, I always appreciated the candor and open-mindedness with which you talked about music, both the bands that were close to you as well as those that you discovered along the way. I can’t even recall how many bands I learned about through this site that become part of my own journey through life. As part of the DC punk/hc scene I also remember how you also did your part to help put the word out about all the great bands in DC that most people didn’t know, which made your site a must-read for me for many years. I wish you all the best and hopefully we’ll cross paths one day at DC show.
RT @tinyengines: This makes me very sad. Thanks for all the great work over the years, Jordan! “@pastepunk: Pastepunk Comes To An End http://t.co/OqT0UJva“
@pastepunk real bummer here. :(
It’s a sad day at the LR office. @pastepunk is closing it’s doors after 14 incredible years. We’ll miss you! http://t.co/q2zboFgP
Uggggh. I’m gutted. Who to trust for recommendations? Where to check 4 or 5 times a day more than I should?
I echo everything John said. Audiogalaxy on dial-up with my dad yelling at me to get off the phone lines. I feel like I grew up with this site. I loved reading the reviews and being so familiar with everyone’s writing style that I could name who was writing it without even looking.
But thanks for everything. You, Jordan, and all the contributors have been great guides and writers and truly mature about the way you approached the music. Rest well.
Thanks for everything over the years! RT @pastepunk: Pastepunk Comes To An End http://t.co/0N7q42BA
“@pastepunk: Pastepunk Comes To An End http://t.co/2s56GZQJ” woah!
Bummer, thanks for always showing love. RT RT @pastepunk: Pastepunk Comes To An End http://t.co/LaHUCVlk
Pastepunk is done. We are sad. http://t.co/A422ZQfG
@pastepunk Good luck with everything, Jordan. And thanks for your support over the years.

Not enough sad faces on the internet for this one: RT @pastepunk: Pastepunk Comes To An End http://t.co/vd8Yv8j9
@pastepunk Jordan you rule.
@pastepunk You will be missed Jordan! Thank you for everything.. And I’ll always have this morning reminder. http://t.co/RlXXcLNY
So @pastepunk published an interview with us as its final report in its 14 yrs of music news. Farewell to a great site. http://t.co/6f4Om222
@pastepunk Ugh! Totally sad but I can relate to everything you said. Essentially why I stopped SPB when I did.
This is a sad day indeed… Thank you for introducing me to many many excellent bands, records and labels, and years worth of great articles, interviews, and reviews. Despite the self-confessed gradual pairing down, this is still by far my most favorite hardcore music site – and I think this just shows the quality of the content posted. Pastepunk will be sorely missed, but it will not be forgotten!
Thanks for all the great reviews and interviews. Been checking out your site for several years now. Best of luck with everything!
jordan- say it ain’t so, brother. there are not nearly enough fine, well-written sites out there.
Pastepunk comes to an end. http://t.co/h9F3992P
@pastepunk The sad thing about fanzines ending is that three other similar, equally great ones don’t pop up as happens with hardcore bands.
I’ve been reading this site for years, since college. Thanks for the news and the memories.
It was punkrocks.net, now this. If punknews.org ever goes down, I might be in trouble.
Sad to see you go. Pastepunk was the only zine I was browsing several times a day. Thanks for your continuous support of I For Us Records!
hey, i’ve loved coming to this website since I was in highschool in 2001; I’ll probably still keep on comin’ back by habit of looking things up on the internet. I want to thank you for all the sweet music you reccomended; and you should do one last “best of the year” thing. I always appreciate those on this particular website.
Hey Jordan,
Sorry to see you go. Really enjoyed the site and your support these last few years.
Thanks
Scott
