New Pastepunk Version Coming Soon; We're Taking A Posting Holiday
Posted by Jordan A. Baker / May 13, 2009
Pastepunk will be going through some posting downtime between Thursday and Sunday as we prepare for the launch of Pastepunk Version 7.0. The site is moving to an entirely new content management system (WordPress, hooray!), and we're very excited about what the future will bring (despite attempting to reformat 14,000+ pages). If you simply need your Pastepunk fix, I recommend going through our Interview archives and re-read our early interviews from THURSDAY, THRICE, BRAND NEW (which is the first band interview they ever did), SICK OF IT ALL, TRIAL, BAD RELIGION, RISE AGAINST, and many, many more. Thanks for your patience, and hopefully you will enjoy our new digs.

Matt St. John recently caught up with EARTH CRISIS guitarist Scott Crouse. The band has been on a whirlwind round of promotion in support of their "comeback" full-length To The Death, on Century Media Records. It has been nearly nine years since the band released Slither, its last recording of all-new material, and EARTH CRISIS haven't left anything to the wayside. You can check out the interview here.

Budapest, Hungary's THE MOOG have released a 7" single titled You Raised a Vampire, in support of their new full-length Razzmatazz Orfeum. The indie/post-punk band takes cues from DAVID BOWIE, THE CLASH, and HOT HOT HEAT among others, and like their American counterparts, knows of the value of a truly silly looking promo photo...

Washington's ALLIGATORS have recently released their full-length Piggy & Cups on their own Applehouse Records. The indie/pop band brings to mind acts like RADIOHEAD, DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE, and a less crazed PORTUGAL THE MAN. You can check out several new songs from the band on their MySpace page. Additionally, check out their video below of "Where Does It Hide?", the lead-off track to the album.

I Believe This Is What They Call An Endorsement
Posted by James Hepplewhite / May 10, 2009
Forgive the navel gazing, but I just graduated from Allegheny College with a B.A. in Philosophy. To tie this into Pastepunk, the one song I listened to before graduation this morning was TRAP THEM's Fucking Viva and the first song I listened to when I finally got back to my room was SHOOK ONES' Slaughter Of the Insole.

Both songs are obviously fantastic and are worth finding on iTunes, I think, and buying right, right now.

Actual "southern" rockers MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER have posted a brand new song on their MySpace. Naturally, the group's upcoming third full-length is titled III, and will be out on Ferret in July.

ANIMAL COLLECTIVE on David Letterman
Posted by Matt St. John / May 9, 2009
Those crazy, noisy popsters ANIMAL COLLECTIVE put on a really weird set on Letterman last Thursday. The music wasn't more strange than usual, but the group hired a blueman-type dance team to twirl and jump around behind the band's tunes. The band played "Summertime Clothes" off of their newest album Merriweather Post Pavilion.

How awesome would it be if one of the blue men removed their mask, and underneath the freaky costume was Tobias Funke? Now that would be something to post about!

Paper + Plastick To Re-Release CHEAP GIRLS Debut
Posted by Jordan A. Baker / May 9, 2009
From the inbox:

No one sent the memo to the members of Lansing, Michigan's CHEAP GIRLS stating that the 90’s are over. With a sound that is as much a throw back to bands such as LEMONHEADS, SUPERCHUNK and OLD 97’s as it is fresh, Cheap Girls are ready to bring their rock to the U.S. and U.K this Spring. Beginning May 11th, the trio head overseas for two-weeks on their first foreign tour. When they arrive back in the states, Cheap Girls have a handful of US shows confirmed, which include select Vans Warped Tour dates.

Gainesville, FL-based Paper + Plastick Records (an all vinyl/digital label owned by Less Than Jake drummer Vinnie Fiorello) will ring in the summer with style by re-releasing Cheap Girls’ debut, Find Me A Drink Home, on June 23rd on 12-inch vinyl and digitally through paperandplastick.com only. “Buzzing guitars, earnest vocals, and relatable lyrics are what fuel Cheap Girls' energetic debut effort,” raves ABSOLUTEPUNK, adding “Cheap Girls' album… a breath of fresh air and a welcome listen to those who loved the raw and sloppy tendencies of 90’s indie and alternative.”

After recording most of Drink… in a cabin in northern Michigan in under a week with Rick Johnson (of Mustard Plug and Bomb! The Music Industry), Cheap Girls enlisted Johnson again to work on the new album, entitled My Roaring 20’s. Set for release this Fall on P+P, bassist/vocalist Ian Graham says “I’m really excited to see how people respond to what we’ve been doing between records.”
